I’m looking for a small black crossbody bag. So far my considerations have been the Mulberry Mini Bayswater and the Loewe Mini Puzzle … does anyone have any other suggestions of classic small crossbody bags?

You are right to look for a classic for a black bag. Brands like Bottega, Prada and Loewe won’t date. I think YSL is a good investment for a cross body black bag. They are a good size for the day and the gold hardware makes them great for the evening. I love these two styles…
I agree with Emma! I’ve had the Loulou crossbody from Saint Laurent for about 5 years. I feel like I’ve used it almost everyday yet it hardly shows any signs of wear, it is small but can easily fit all the essentials, I’d really recommend it.
