Host gift ideas

Hi. We are making plans to stay with my hubby’s uncle and aunt in Boston late Jan and they’re also letting us stay in their snazzy apartment in NY for a few days. I’d like to take a (British) gift with me and given their kindness and hospitality - seeking ideas on something generous and special. Thank you xx

How about something personalised? Rebecca Udall does lovely table and bed linens which can be made bespoke

Oh that’s such a lovely idea! I think anything from Anya Hindmarch is a good shout? Or what about some special foodie gifts from Fortnum & Mason or Liberty – very British?

Also, I was recently gifted a Smythson notebook and pen set (another British brand) which I really love and wouldn’t have bought myself.

My boyfriend and I visited some friends from Texas last month and they hosted us for 3 nights, we bought them some food items and teabags from Fortnum and Mason - went down an absolute treat!

I’d also add anything from Harrods always goes down really well and good quality chocolates. We work with a lot of US companies and they love a hamper, annoying to carry but you could order it to ship there beforehand from somewhere like Fortnum’s (don’t know if they do international delivery) and then you don’t have to worry about carrying stuff with you either! There is also a Fortnum store in T5 at Heathrow.

Foodie gifts from British brands are my go to if I’m a bit unsure of what to get someone abroad, something like truffles from Charbonnel et Walker, a nice looking tin of biscuits (Borders/ Fortnum) & some lovely Whittards tea
