I’m driving up to the Lake District next weekend from Central London - we fancy making a day of the journey up there by stopping off in the midlands somewhere for lunch. Does anyone have any recommendations for nice places to visit on the way?
Ideally looking for a cute village/town or heritage location (considered Aynhoe Park, but it will a bit early in the journey!)

What about Chatsworth House? It’s just over halfway. https://app-chatsworthweb-prod.azurewebsites.net/
Hampton in Arden is lovely! It’s near Birmingham (so about half way on your trip) and there are lots of lovely restaurants. I’d stop at Hampton Manor hotel which has a few places to eat, including Smoke (everything is cooked over coals) and Grace & Savour which recently won a Michelin Star.

Love this one, its part of a group of pubs run by the Chatsworth Estate
