I really love Roots for a lunch or dinner!

Such a treat, I love York! But top recs would be:

Cafes
Brew & brownie
Mannion & co
Fossgate social
Bettys (for the experience but only sit upstairs for afternoon tea) - be sure to buy some biscuits and tea from the gift shop

Restaurants
Ambiente for tapas
Mommy Thai York for Thai
La Vecchia Scuola for delicious Italian food

Pubs & bars
Lamb &Lion - lovely courtyard and also serves good food
Lucias - cool interiors and v nice drinks!

I live in York! Fab city for a weekend away.

I would highly recommend the following…
Bishopthorpe Road or ‘Bishy rd’ is just out of town near the city walls and has some cool cafes - Pig and Pastry and Robinsons for brunches. Stanley and Ramona for great coffee and cake. 2 Many Wines is an amazing local wine bar to head to before dinner.
In town, head to Kiosk for fab coffee and the newly opened Rise for brunch. Brew York has on site brewed beer on tap and houses YUZU Street Food (the bao buns are unreal). The Star Inn restaurant looks over the river ouse and is a really special place for weekend lunch/dinner.

The Pig and Pastry is AMAZING. We went there for brunch both days on our most recent visit.
Also loved Ate O’Clock- we had a fab evening meal there.
Defo agree that Bishy Road is also worth a visit- some beautiful shops too.
