Hey! Would love any recommendations for non fiction/self help books if anyone has read anything particularly inspiring/helpful? X
If you’re interested in the law of attraction at all I really love The Secret
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Secret-Rhonda-Byrne/dp/1847370292
I have a physical copy but much prefer to listen to the audiobook – the production feels a little dated now but I find it easier to digest.
Not self-help but I loved Oprah’s What I Know For Sure Amazon.co.uk again a really nice one to listen to as Oprah reads it herself
Self-help books are my go-to, here are my favourite (in order):
- Atomic Habits, James Clear
- Not A Life Coach, James Smith
- Surrounded By Idiots, Thomas Erikson
- The Chimp Paradox, Prof Steve Peters
- Shoe Dog, Phill Knight
I read Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton in about 2 days last summer. The story is fab but the message is also fab and so inspiring - funny and sad along the way x
Atomic Habits by James Clear is a great read
Great question! Is there any particular self-help area you wanted to explore?
In terms of inspiring non-fiction reads, here are a couple of favourites:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Year-Magical-Thinking-Joan-Didion/dp/0007216858/ref=asc_df_0007216858/
https://www.amazon.co.uk/What-Talk-About-When-Running/dp/0099526158/ref=asc_df_0099526158/
My favourite is Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. Highly highly recommend!
I second The Secret and Everything I Know About Love. For anyone in their twenties I always recommend The Defining Decade.
Women Who Run With The Wolves: Contacting the Power of the Wild Woman - Pinkola Estes.
It might not be the answer you are looking for spending time in nature and journaling your thoughts may effectively create your own self help book - you are the ultimate expert on your situation and nature gives you the psychological space to reflect on your situation
Really depends on the areas you’re interested in but one author I come back to a lot is Glennon Doyle. Her book Untamed: Stop Pleasing, Start Living was a v interesting lockdown read. Elizabeth Gilbert is known best for Eat Pray Love but her book Big Magic: How to Live a Creative Life, and Let Go of Your Fear is a more up to date read. Finally, anything by Tik Naht Hahn. He was a buddhist monk (died last year at the age of 95) and his book Fear, which came out in 2012, really made an impact on me.
