Foody pubs in Cotswold

Hi, got a weekend in the Cotswold (Clanfield) end of November - what’s the best pubs for good food? There’s so many but hard to know which ones to book!

Oh definitely the Kingham Plough, The Wild Rabbit or The Bell at Chartlbury. And if you fancy somewhere a bit different, try The Coaching Inn in Burford which has a pizza oven in the garden.

If you’re after authenticity, avoid all Bamford pubs (Wild Rabbit, Bell @ Charlbury, The Fox).
Killingworth Castle near Woodstock has exceptional food and the best soda bread you’ll ever try.
Bull in Charlbury is excellent although you’ll need a reservation.
Any of the restaurants within the Farncombe Estate (Dormy House, The Fish).
Best beef wellington I’ve ever had is in Broadway at the Lygon Arms, gorgeous at this time of year too.

I recently stayed at Minster Mill and the food was delicious and so have high hopes on recommending the sister pub next door, The Old Swan. I really want to try the Double Red Duke and The Bull and have heard good things about The Boxing Hare too, if you’re passing that way x

Whoops, sorry, I used the old name by mistake. The Clanfield Tavern is now called the Masons Arms.

Clanfield is a small place so unless you are staying with friends, you must be staying the Double Red Duke or the Clanfield Tavern. Either place is excellent for food - the DRD has an expensive restaurant plus a cheaper but still nice bar area with a fairly limited menu. The barman there is fantastic and makes excellent cocktails! The Clanfield Tavern is more what you’d expect from a gastropub. It’s only recently opened under the same management as the DRD. We went in the opening week and the food was first rate (oh wow, the starters!) and the staff were lovely. I think the Clanfield Tavern would be my recommendation. While you are there make sure you go to Blake’s for one of their award winning cinnamon buns.

The pubs that others have mentioned are about a 45 min drive from Clanfield and it’s really not worth going that far.
