How often should you cleanse daily?

I spoke to someone recently who has worked in Space NK for years and completely denounces washing your face with cleanser in the morning. However, I know others (including myself) who cleanse morning and night… which is better for your skin?

I personally like washing my face in the morning. I make sure to use a hydrating cleanser so that I’m not completely stripping and drying out my skin. It just makes me feel fresh, and that I’m starting on a good canvas for moisturiser and sunscreen.

Haha, a highly contentious beauty topic! I personally cleanse twice (or three times, depending on how you look at it!), one light cleanse in the morning (milk or gel etc) and then a double cleanse at night (balm/oil/cream then something lighter). Virtually every single facialist/derm I’ve ever spoken to says that you should be cleansing your skin in the morning to get rid of the sweat that accumulates on your face while sleeping. Love a morning cleanse, just gives your skin a fresh/balanced feeling and makes your make-up go on miles better than without in my opinion. Think the key here is - like for many beauty queries - do what works for you. You can always cleanse in the shower if you’re short on time, and the issue is that your skin feels stripped/tight afterwards then I’d probably argue your current is probably not the right formula for you. I have dry skin, so I double cleanse at night & then just wash with water in the morning! This works for my skin type but I think it’s all about what works for you!

I think it all depends on skin type and preference! But with oily skin you should probably cleanse in the morning to remove sweat and excess oil. But it’s ok to skip the cleanser in the morning if you have dry skin because cleansing strips the skins of its natural oils that dry skin already is naturally more deprived of.

I used to wash my face every morning and one day I saw Natalie O’neill (such a great skincare girl on TikTok) who recommended not washing in the morning.

Once I started I haven’t stopped, I feel like my skin got clearer and it was less stripping. I do wet a cotton pad with water and dab anything that needs to come off.

I double cleanse every night with an oil cleanser and a water based one! xx

I personally don’t think there’s a right or wrong - it really depends on your skin type. I cleanse twice a day, very lightly in the morning and double cleanse at night. But that’s because my skin needs it. If yours is pretty normal/balanced, a nightly cleanse is probably plenty. Night-time is always the preference though if you’re choosing just one - you need to get rid of all the dirt from the day!

I’m the same as Becky, a very light cleanse in the morning and double cleanse in the evening is what seems to be working for my skin, but also have a lot of friends who swear that not using product in the morning cleanse really helped them - I guess it’s a trial and error sort of situ!
