Ideas for Mum's 60th Birthday Present

It’s my Mum’s 60th birthday in a couple of months and she is notoriously hard to buy for! She’s very stylish - loves brands like Zimmermann, Melissa Odabash, Me&Em, Alighieri - but I’m trying to think of gifts which are more appropriate for a milestone birthday. Not looking at anything homeware related as I want the gift to be special for her only - any ideas please let me know!

I’d lean into her love of Alighieri and look at their modern heirlooms collection:

A friend has recently set up a fashion business with fabulous unique clothing and scarves. I’m wondering if one of the scarves might fit the bill ? The story of how the scarves came into being, using artists really does make them special and the brand is luxurious. I know, I’ve been gifted a top :kissing_heart:. Like your mum I’m a huge fan of Me & Em, and Auguri is similar quality, but probably more unique as everything is limited availability

My mum is a nightmare to buy for too. I always think doing something together is nice for these big birthdays. For my mums we took her to a lovely restaurant and a musical she always wanted to go to. She still talks about it years later. For my 50th my family and I went to Spain. It was great. My friend also turned up as a surprise which was lovely. So maybe do a nice overnight or go somewhere she’d love. Create memories.

I love the idea of a weekend trip together. Consider a Relais & Chateau hotel with amazing food and gardens or hop up to Scotland/Gleneagles. It is memorable and gorgeous. Bring fancy dresses for the dining room.

Or Eurostar to Paris for an indulgent weekend at the Cheval Blanc hotel and shopping at Samaritaine (both owned by LVMH). The Louvre is 5 min walk away, as is the very lively Latin Quarter (across Pont Neuf). Gigi’s for lunch. George V for viewing amazing flowers.

PS I have done all these trips with my daughter and the memories are my absolute favorite!

I have mentioned on here before but we bought my mum a scarf clip from Hermes and it was such a success. If that’s a bit traditional, Anya Hindmarch do a lovely personalisation service on their products to give something extra special.

I agree with memories over physical gifts, especially for such a special birthday! For my mums 60th, I got her a photo album/ scrapbook of photos all from her life and got other members of the family/ friends to write notes and memories within it!

Visit and lunch at an English vineyard with overnight stay nearby? They’re always in lovely powers for the country.
