We are thinking of staying a couple of days in the Lake District on our way up to Scotland, but wasn’t sure about accommodation with two 8 year olds. Can anyone recommend anywhere that isn’t too pricey, mid-range, maybe a lovely cottage or hotel set in petty surroundings. We would be looking to travel around April time. Thank you.

With kids I’d recommend Cumbrian Farmhouse on Kip Hideaways which is close to a nature reserve and has lots of spots for wild swimming.
or Cuckoo Brow Inn is a lovely pub with rooms for something more relaxed / Lakeside Hotel is in such a great spot and has lots of outdoor activities for kids!

I stayed at Another Place a couple of years ago – it’s right on Ullswater lake and there are lots of water-based activities for children. Plus the green house turns into a pizza restaurant in the summer:
