New York August Trip - outfits!

Hello,
I am off to New York at the end of August. For some reason I am having complete outfit panic. Any good outfit recommendations or pieces I should buy?
Also concerned about a comfortable but chic shoe, I always feel dumpy in a trainer but worried a sandal/flip flop won’t hack it.

I don’t know how chic these are, but for summer in the city I live in Timberland platform sandals. So comfortable and keep you elevated above the city grime! They passed a London members club dress code last week so they can’t be too bad

New York will be very hot at the end of August so I definitely recommend wearing flowy and comfortable pieces! Shoe wise during the day I’d recommend sticking with trainers as you’ll be walking a lot and the streets aren’t the cleanest… You could go for Adidas Sambas or Spezials as they’re a classic. I also love Onitsuka Tigers. In the evenings when you’re walking less you could go for sandals.

Shorts and shirt coords are an easy option and they look put together:

I was in New York during the summer last year and I lived in a two piece linen set. It was super comfortable! I also wore adidas trainers during the day as we did lots of steps! Perhaps a birkenstock style sandal is a good option if you find them comfortable!

You cant go wrong with a good co-ord for a city break in the heat - i love deiji studios, frankieshop, with nothing underneath.

I’d defo recommend a light jacket for when it gets a bit breezy - denim jackets are a good idea. I also suggest to pack a pair of linen trousers, an oversized striped shirt, good denim shorts and some eveningwear.

Echoing all the comments re: weather and city grime. Given the humidity, I would really stick to clothes that aren’t going to show up sweat (so think about colours here - I steer away from light blue and grey). For shoes I would really avoid open toe shoes because the streets are disgusting. If you are going for a sandal, make sure its something with a thicker sole / flatform. Most people are wearing sneakers so you won’t look out of place, especially in something like a samba, new balance, salomon, etc.

Oh gosh, please wear sneakers/trainers. You will walk so much and it will be so so hot, do prioritize comfort!!! No one will give this a second glance. Also sunscreen! It’s 23-24 degrees at night right now and will stay that hot or hotter. And if you bring dresses or skirts and plan to walk around in them bring some shorts like bike shorts or Spanx for under them to avoid chafing and feel less gross about sitting down some places!

I love a set like this linen one!

Everyone on here is telling you to wear trainers.

Might I suggest a smart trainer with a chunky sole?

Not Adidas, but trust me, you will thank me when you are putting in the miles, because the chunky soles and padded insoles will feel like walking on clouds.

A friend just bought some chunky-soles sandals from here, walked into town, danced all night and walked home. Texted me to say she has never had such comfortable shoes on a first wearing.
