New York with a teenager

Hi SL Community, I’m looking to take my daughter to Manhattan for a few days as a surprise when she finishes her exams this summer. Has anyone recently taken a teenager there and if so, do you have a top affordable hotel, restaurant and a must see/do recommendation? The Sheerluxe New York City Guide is fantastic but I was wondering if anyone had one or two teenage specific ideas? Many thanks x

When I was teen and went to NY I saw Mean Girls the Musical and it was amazing! I would definitely recommend a theatre show and then grab a pizza slice on your way home.

Here are some other shows I’ve seen that are live that I am desperate to watch: Death Becomes Her, Chicago and Moulin Rogue.

I went as a teenager and absolutely loved going to the top of The Rock for amazing views of NYC. A bike ride around central park or along Brooklyn Bridge. Soho is also fun for some cool boutiques x

hii, this sounds super exciting!!

I’ve stayed at The Dylan Hotel, which was round the corner from Grand Central Station, so getting anywhere was super quick and easy for us! - would highly recommend.
I remember being super excited about visiting all the shops that didn’t yet exist in the UK (Aritzia and Sephora are two that come to mind), and walking around all the top touristy spots!
As for foodie bits, a really great breakfast spot I visited was ‘Jack’s Wife Freda’, which had such yummy food and in a great area for shopping.

Have the best time! x

I also remember going to see a musical which is a must and going to the top of The Rock!
I have heard great things about Rubirosa for dinner. Worth going to soho for the markets and food halls. I would also recommend Leons bagels and Joe’s Pizza for casual eats!

Wow so exciting! I remember going when I was a teenager and literally had the best time ever! We did all of the tourist stuff and saw Lion King in broadway, a true 10/10! If you have time and don’t mind getting up early when I went recently me and my friend, woke up at 5am to get rush tickets to see waitress on broadway and got front row seats for $30!

Other things you could consider doingis going to see the friends building and going to the diner from where sally met harry. I’m a huge friends fan so this was a highlight for me, doesn’t cost anything and is a way to see different parts of the city.

Oh how fun! Ellen’s Stardust Diner is https://www.ellensstardustdiner.com/ quite a fun spot - the food is fine, it’s more for the atmosphere. The waiting staff are aspiring Broadway performers so they sing while they deliver the food. Also you MUST get a cookie from Levain https://levainbakery.com/ - so yum x
