Tableware…how to choose

I would like to start a tableware collection that I can build overtime rather than my mix and match items from various supermarkets and department stores. Portmeirion, Spode, Wedgwood, Denby … any advice/recommendations ?

If you’re keen to add to it over the years, it makes sense to go for a plain white from a well-established brand that isn’t going anywhere. I’d look at John Lewis to start as they have great sets. This one from Sophie Conran for Portmeirion is classic with a twist

If you’re looking for a collection that’s long-lasting & unique, I’ve started with a super simple set from the white company of plates, bowls, pasta bowls & side plates. I’ve then collected the Bordello Pinheiro collection of cabbages, fruit etc (they also have a floral collection!). They are so fun and look so great on a dinner table! It also makes it super easy for anyone to buy you a birthday/Christmas present!
