Hi everyone! I am travelling around Europe during November and December this year and need some recs for comfy shoes and advice on how to layer clothes. I’m from Australia and have not been anywhere remotely this cold before. For reference, some of the cities im visiting are London, Dublin, Stockholm, Cologne, Vienna, Lucerne, Bruges, Colmar etc. If anyone has advice they could offer up it would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you and have a nice day/night xx
Comfy boots are key! They can be dressed up or down, and will protect you from the elements.
Biker midi-calf boots are really in at the moment, get a black pair and they’ll go with everything. I’ve got a pair and I wear them at least once a week.
Then I would say trainers are a must. Two shoes will probably be plenty if you are backpacking. But a nicer pair of slight heels or ballet flats/ smarter shoes wouldn’t go amiss.
Thank you so much!!
Based on my experience, I strongly advise against wearing Doc Martens boots as they can be quite harsh on your feet. Instead, I highly recommend bringing a pair of solid white or black Nike workout shoes for walking, some short rain boots or waterproof shoes, Tevas sandals, and packing a wool cardigan with a light cotton cardigan. Personally, I absolutely love cardigans from Boden. Being based in the US, I can’t recommend Madewell enough for their stylish and comfortable light wool sweaters.
Thank you for the recs Claire!!
Definitely pack a raincoat & umbrella! And a warm puffer that you can pack up small would probably be good as well for when it gets colder. Layering is definitely key though because in London especially, the weather can be so variable - tank tops or t-shirts, cardigan or jumper, and then a coat - that way you’ve got options!
Thank you for the tips Emma!!
I love a trainer for comfort but this year I am also wearing loafers so much!! I have this pair and they are just so comfortable when worn with a sock and I think they go with so many outfits, have become such a staple for me!
Thank you for the rec!!
you are welcome!
